History of Heritage Park:
The building remained idle for several years while politicians debated the merits of this or that use for it. In 1979, the building mysteriously caught fire and burned to the ground. Many prominent citizens volunteered that they had struck the igniting match but none could be singled out to receive the medal of heroism they deserved for getting rid of what had become an old eyesore.
The Peachland Rotary Club built the Pavilion in 2004 as a tribute to the Centennial of Rotary; it has become a focal point of urban life in Heritage Park. It is also the scene of several community events. The Peachland Lions added to the park by providing benches.
The Peachland Pier Project:
Three local service clubs ?the Sportsmen抯 Association, Peachland Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Peachland ?have a goal to build a new wheelchair accessible pier in downtown Peachland. The Peachland Pier will be a 120-metre long fixed structure running parallel to the shoreline of Heritage Park in downtown Peachland. Breakout areas will allow people to fish while the main pier will feature wheelchair access with benches to rest and take in the Okanagan Lake views. We envision a place where youngsters can try their hand at fishing while meeting the needs of people who have had to give up their pastime because of physical limitations.
How to Get Involved in the Peachland Pier Project:
$100 - First/last name engraved on the Peachland Pier railing
$500 - 80 characters engraved on a brass plaque
$5000 - Bench or fishing chair with an engraved brass plaque
